As of August, 2019, "The federal government spent a record $3,727,014,000,000 in the first ten months of fiscal 2019 (October through July), according to the Monthly Treasury Statement released today. While spending that record $3,727,014,000,000, the government ran a deficit of $866,812,000,000." (Link).
Federal spending is out of control, even with Trump in the White House. While some say that this amount of debt doesn't matter, I think this is foolish thinking. Actually, I believe that we are losing our country because of this national debt, and it is an enormous tragedy. People who do not understand the value of this country are willingly racking up trillions and trillions of dollars of insurmountable debt. Unless our federal spending habits drastically change, this debt will ultimately destroy the value of the dollar. By printing trillions and trillions of dollars to pay off the debt, this will cause inflation to rise, destroying the value of the dollar.
